Theatre Charlotte’s Visual Art Series

The mission of Theatre Charlotte’s Visual Art Series is to offer gallery space for local artists and to exhibit art that deepens the patron experience with the themes represented on stage.

Theatre Charlotte invites all Charlotte area artists to apply for the opportunity to have their work displayed in our lobby throughout the run of a show. We are specifically seeking art that relates to the main theme of a show or that sets an appropriate mood.

Bring your art into the Theatre Charlotte lobby

Theatre Charlotte invites Charlotte-area visual artists to exhibit their work in our lobby during the run of one of our mainstage productions. We're looking for artwork that connects with a show's themes, setting, mood, or story.

There is no cost to participate, and artists may sell their work during the exhibit. Theatre Charlotte promotes participating artists through social media, email newsletter, lobby signage, and our print and digital playbill, giving your work an opportunity to reach a new audience. Depending on the production, artists and their guests may be invited to a preview performance or receive an invitation for themselves and a guest to attend a regular performance.

How it works

Artists may apply for one or more productions. See available shows below along with deadlines, dates, and show themes.

If selected, artists are responsible for installing, labeling, and removing their work, although Theatre Charlotte can provide installation assistance when needed. Exhibits are typically installed shortly before the production opens and remain on display throughout the run.

Interested? Here's what to send us:

  • A short artist bio

  • A brief paragraph about how your work connects to the production(s) you're interested in

  • 4–6 images of your work or a link to your online portfolio

  • The name(s) of the production(s) you're applying for

Email your materials to Chris Timmons at chris@theatrecharlotte.org with "Visual Art Series" in the subject line.

There is no cost to apply or participate.
