Welcome
to Theatre Charlotte!
A Message from the Executive DirectorTheatre Charlotte is the oldest arts
organization in Charlotte and the oldest continuously producing community
theatre in North Carolina. Theatre Charlotte is a volunteer-based community
theatre dedicated to creating outstanding theatre opportunities relevant to the
people of the Charlotte region. We are committed to increasing the relevance of
theatre in the lives of more people by demonstrating that theatre can inspire,
educate and unite community.
Our 84th season is now underway. Meredith Willson’s The
Music Man opened the season with a wonderful run. Dale Wasserman’s
adaptation of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, directed
by Charles LaBorde, was a critical and box office success. Our 5th
annual production of A Christmas Carol, directed by Stuart Spencer,
was our most successful to date. The
multi-prize-winning drama Doubt by John Patrick Shanley and
directed by Gina Stewart will be presented Jan 20-Feb 5. A comic adventure,
Around the World in 80 Days, adapted by Mark Brown from the
Jules Verne classic and directed by Nicia Carla, will entertain March 16-April
1. This zany show features 5 actors playing all 39 parts! Next, we will present
the Tony Award-winning musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County
Spelling Bee, directed by Dennis Delamar, May 11-27. This production
will be choreographed by Linda Booth, with musical direction by Ryan Deal. And
we close with our June bonus production, Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple
(female version),
June 15-24 with Jill Bloede directing.
Check out “Wine, Chocolate and Murder,”
our 4th annual Valentine’s murder mystery dinner theatre on Saturday,
February 11, 2012 with catering by Carpe Diem. And on April 21, we will be
presenting our 3rd annual “24 Hour Theatre Project,” in which 6
ten-minute plays will be written, cast, rehearsed and presented to an audience
in 24 hours. In July, we will see the debut of TCjr, a summer theatre
performance intensive for young people ages 9-14 under the direction of
professional directors, choreographers, music directors and designers. The
intensive culminates with performances of Disney’s Beauty and the
Beast, Jr. July 5-14. The Theatre
Charlotte Student Theatre Guild (ages 14 through college) will conduct a
two-week summer intensive finishing with performances of the Broadway hit
musical Pippin, July 19-21.
So, if you are not already, please
consider becoming a part of the Theatre Charlotte family—as a performer,
backstage worker, usher or set builder. Season Flex tickets are still
available. We know you will have the time of your life!
We look forward to seeing you often during this exciting 84th
season!
Sincerely,
Ron Law
