THEATRE CHARLOTTE AND VITO ABATE

just do it
just do it
is a monthly themed reading and performance series beginning its
2nd season at Theatre Charlotte, Fall 2008. Created
by Vito Abate it originated in New York City and ran
there for 3 seasons in the early 90’s. It was later revived in
Denver, CO in 2001 and premiered in Charlotte on February 29,
2008.

provides artists and creative people of various disciplines an
opportunity to create and present work in front of an audience.
It is open to all individuals, experienced or not, amateur and
professional.
Many of us are looking for a creative outlet or avenue, or a
focus to steer our creativity towards. Most of us don’t have a
public forum to showcase our talents. A lot of us need
the pressure of deadlines to help our inspiration flow. Some of
have often dreamt of writing or performing something…
just do it
does it!
THE FOCUS
Each night has a different theme in the form of a title, word or
expression. Individuals may use any number of mediums to express
their take on the theme.
THE VENUE
All performances take place in the theater on the mainstage
complete with lights and sound. Wine, beer and soft drinks
available in the lobby help create a social atmosphere to mingle
with friends and performers.
THE DEADLINES
Participants agree to meet submission deadlines for first and
final drafts, and to be available pre-show for a technical
rehearsal.
THE CONTENT
There are no restrictions on what can be presented. Other than
adhering to deadlines, the participants’ pieces must be within a
pre-set time limit.
Currently seeking
Fiction and non-fiction writers, playwrights, bloggers,
spoken-word artists, poets, actors, singers, musicians, dancers,
choreographers, filmmakers, photographers, comedians and anyone
with a desire to
just do it.
Also
seeking actors,
various age range and types interested in participating in
just do
it’s
theatrical soap opera, City Queens making its
debut on September 19. Need actors able to commit to all
(or any) of the episodes of the Season 2 dates listed above.
Limited rehearsals, on book performances. No pay.

unlike an open mic night, available slots are lined up well in
advance of the performance date

in addition to the mixed bag of what individuals present, there
are regular segments as part of every evening
v
shorter pieces for beginner writers are an option
v
opportunities available for actors to appear in original short
play readings

while new work created specifically for
just do it
is preferred, existing written pieces may be considered if they
fit the theme and have never been publicly read or performed
