Musical
Book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Based on the plays of Plautus
Directed by Vito Abate

"Something familiar, something peculiar, something for everyone: a comedy tonight!" Broadway's greatest farce is light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. In this non-stop laugh-fest, Pseudolus, a crafty slave, struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan named Philia, for his young master, Hero, in exchange for freedom. The plot twists and turns with cases of mistaken identity, slamming doors, and a showgirl or two.

PLEASE NOTE... A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum has replaced the previously announced production of Fiddler on the Roof. Due to circumstances beyond our control, Theatre Charlotte is not able to produce Fiddler on the Roof as the opening musical for our 2012-2013 Season. We understand that many of you were excited to see this show – we were too! We sincerely apologize for this disappointing news, but we do hope to be able to bring Fiddler on the Roof to our stage in the coming years. In its place, we will be producing A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. This Tony Award winning musical has been called one of the funniest musicals ever written and features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart.

No one is more disappointed than our production team for Fiddler on the Roof who has already put in many hours and much hard work, but everyone is on board to make A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum a memorable opener for our 85th season!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR STAR SEASON TICKET HOLDERS
Star Season ticket holders will receive replacement tickets within the next three weeks.
